Quick update on Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire from Mayor and Fire Chief Vigil

As far as Bull Canyon, Cow Creek, Upper and Lower Colonias and Barrillas areas.. they are working on repairing dozer lines, hand dug lines, fences and anything that was disrupted during the suppression period, to a more natural state to prevent flooding into the valleys (if we are blessed with rains anytime soon).
The fire remains in the Wilderness area, backburning has been completed as of today. However, they could begin back burn operations again if needed.
All of the Canyon area is in a "Set" status, with the exception of the Iron Gate area as they remain in "Go" status. Upper and Lower Colonias, Bull Creek, Cow Creek and Birds of a Feather remain in "Set" status. Village of Pecos and East Pecos remain in "Ready" status. All these status' are as precaution measures only.
Wildfire is at 67% containment as of today. Smoke will continue to be visible (especially in early morning hours) due to heat and dry conditions. We are still hopeful to be blessed with a calming but steady rainfall.
As always keep your head on a swivel and continue to follow all guidelines and rules set forth regarding fire restrictions. We are still in a very drought stricken stage.
As a side note, due to the 4th of July holiday upcoming, please remember that ALL FIREWORKS ARE BANNED IN VILLAGE LIMITS!
We appreciate your cooperation and support! Lets keep our Village safe. Thank you!
